Creating a website or ePortfolio turned out to be more challenging than I initially expected. When I first learned that I would be developing a website for my ePortfolio in my last course, I confidently thought, “I can handle this, no problem.” However, I soon encountered several issues, primarily due to my oversight. The trouble began when I overlooked the fact that Google Sites was on the not preferred list. By the time I realized this, I had already constructed most of my site. I chose Google Sites because it was the platform my district uses for teacher sites and I believed it would be the simplest option, given my prior experience. But as the saying goes, "When you assume,.........."
I consulted my professor, who said I could continue using Google Sites for the time being, but I would need to eventually switch to a different platform. Again, I thought, “No problem.” However, more challenges arose as the school year began. I was busy setting up my classroom, organizing seating for 34 classes, creating lesson plans, and juggling everything else on my plate. I began exploring free website builders and found one I was somewhat familiar with: Wix. However, it had been several years since I last visited that platform, and like many technologies, it had changed significantly. I felt lost. To help me navigate, I researched online and discovered tutorial videos that guided me in getting started. I managed to create a basic structure with some ideas, but I still needed to reformat my previous content for the new site. Meanwhile, new courses began, and someone else used Google Sites, confirming we could still utilize that platform. I soon started to hear discussions about transitioning to a more permanent site beyond Google, leaving me back where I started.

The most frustrating aspect for me is my lack of thoroughness regarding the ePortfolio website requirements. Now, in my limited free time between teaching, parenting, and school, I will persist with the transition from Google Sites to Wix.

Some tips I’ve learned include the abundance of YouTube videos available that explain various features of using Wix. Additionally, I’ve learned to be patient with myself and to remember that I can still succeed, even when it feels challenging at times. It reminds me of my motto when I’m running and doubt my ability to go another mile: If it were easy, everyone would do it.
These experiences have taught me the importance of adaptability and resilience in the face of unexpected challenges and helps in further developing my growth mindset. Every setback has been an opportunity to learn something new and improve my skills. For instance, I now appreciate the value of thoroughly understanding the tools and platforms I choose to work with before diving into a project. This approach minimizes surprises and smooths the path forward. Moreover, I've come to realize the significance of time management and prioritization. Balancing multiple responsibilities—teaching, parenting, and studying—requires a clear focus on what is most important at any given moment. I've started using planning tools and setting aside dedicated blocks of time for specific tasks, which helps me stay organized and reduces stress. In addition to technical skills, this journey has highlighted the importance of a supportive community. Whether it's colleagues, professors, or online resources, having people to turn to for advice and encouragement makes a tremendous difference. Their support reassures me that I'm not alone and that others have successfully navigated similar challenges.
Looking ahead, I am determined to complete my ePortfolio and create a website that truly reflects my professional growth and achievements. This gives me a clear understanding of who owns the ePortfolio (Harapnuik, 2023). I know there will be more hurdles to overcome, but I am confident in my ability to tackle them with the lessons I've learned. By staying patient, seeking help when needed, and maintaining a positive attitude, I believe I can turn this challenging experience into a rewarding accomplishment. In the end, this journey is not just about creating a website; it's about personal growth and the resilience to keep moving forward, no matter the obstacles. It's a reminder that perseverance and a willingness to learn can turn any challenge into a stepping stone towards success.
