In the Instructional Design in Online Learning course, we were tasked with designing a prototype for an online or blended learning course, which allowed us to apply a wide range of instructional strategies and technology in a practical, real-world context. We explored various teaching methods, such as active learning and collaborative learning, and adapted them to the online environment. Technology played a key role in our design, from choosing the right Learning Management System (LMS) to integrating tools like video lectures, quizzes, and discussion forums that fostered engagement and knowledge retention. A major focus was on creating a learner-centered design that considered the diverse needs of students, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all learners. We also delved into the design of both formative and summative assessments to evaluate learner progress and provide meaningful feedback. Throughout the project, collaboration was essential, as we worked with peers to refine our ideas, review each other’s work, and integrate different perspectives. The ultimate challenge was to design an engaging and practical learning experience that not only helped students acquire new knowledge but also encouraged them to apply what they had learned in real-world scenarios. This project deepened our understanding of the complexities of online education and enhanced our skills in instructional design, while also highlighting the importance of technology and thoughtful planning in creating effective learning experiences.
