Developing Effective PL

Why is a shift to an alternative model of PL necessary?

Professional Learning is a process designed to assist educators in enhancing their teaching practices and deepening their knowledge to better support student learning. But our current model of sit and do isn’t effective. As teachers in a PL session, we learn the way our students learn. That’s why the Go and Show model would be more effective and engaging for educators.

This model emphasizes active participation, reflection, and collaboration, mirroring the strategies we want to implement in our classrooms. By engaging in hands-on activities and real-world problem-solving, educators can better grasp new concepts and techniques, making the learning experience more relevant and impactful.

Moreover, the Go and Show model fosters a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth. It encourages educators to take initiative, share their insights, and apply what they've learned directly to their teaching practices. This not only enhances their own skills but also positively influences student outcomes.

By shifting to this alternative model, schools can cultivate a learning environment where teachers feel empowered, supported, and inspired to innovate. This approach aligns with our commitment to fostering a dynamic and evolving educational landscape that meets the needs of both teachers and students in today's fast-paced world.

This course is designed to guide educators through the process of transitioning from traditional LIM (Leader in Me) notebooks to digital ePortfolios for 5th grade students. Participants will learn how to facilitate the development of comprehensive ePortfolios that foster students' digital literacy, personal growth, creative expression, and academic reflection. By the end of the course, teachers will have the knowledge and resources needed to help their students create, manage, and reflect on ePortfolios that showcase academic work, goal-setting, and leadership development.

To ensure successful implementation and sustainability of Leader in Me ePortfolios, the plan will be organized into separate phases for each stakeholder group: Administrators, Instructional Coaches, GradeLevel Team Leads, GradeLevel Teachers, and Paraprofessionals & Support Staff. Each group will have tailored support and professional learning objectives, designed to foster collaboration and ensure a smooth integration process across the school.

Success in learning depended on engaging with peers, sharing insights, and collaborating, which highlighted the value of diverse perspectives. Collaborative discussions deepened our understanding and sparked creative solutions, fostering a supportive learning community. This approach enhanced individual learning and built camaraderie, allowing us to refine ideas and challenge assumptions. Reflecting on these experiences emphasizes that collaboration is crucial for personal and professional development, reinforcing that learning is a shared journey where we can inspire and support one another.
